Inside the Wave

The surfer follows the curve of the barrel, surrounded by blue water and foam. Inside the barrel, the surfer is not merely on the wave but surrounded by it. Reading the water and reacting quickly are part of balancing risk and pleasure. Strength helps, but timing and control often decide what happens when movement reaches its limits. Sport turns preparation into an immediate response. There is little time to think once the play has begun.
