A Romance Above the Ocean

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet appear with arms outstretched above the Titanic. It is the kind of reference that lets the viewer fill in what came before and imagine what happens next. The encounter with this scene depends as much on the film as on the memories of those who have seen it. Some characters grow beyond their stories, remaining recognizable off screen. Beyond recalling a film, the scene recaptures the emotion that kept that moment in so many people's memories.
