A Portrait Among Leaves and Water

An Indigenous woman rests beside a tree trunk, surrounded by vegetation and the river. The scene calls attention to the relationship between people and territory, without reducing Indigenous peoples to one image or a shared, uniform experience. Territory, memory, and ways of life are interconnected. Speaking about Indigenous peoples also requires recognizing their diversity. The focus on human presence and environment reminds us that identity and territory often go together.
